"Now we're coming up on the raunchy
scene that the film censors made us cut out. This is during the
'Will You Marry Me?' dance number, right after Amitabh has rubbed salt in
Amrita's wounds.
"Strange how he showed up on set the next day with a broken leg...Amrita and her bodyguard couldn't have had anything to do with that, could they?" |
"I'm not sure why we decided that Ruby -- Amrita's character -- should be Catholic. I think it's because she was a sexually amoral masochist. I remember somebody saying 'why don't you make Ruby underage as well?' so we did! It was fun." |
"Aha, and this is the first scene they cut out of the film: Amitabh and Amrita smooching at the altar. We knew it wouldn't get past the censors when we did it, so we decided, why not get even raunchier in the next scene? They'll only cut it all out anyway, and Anu Malik's songs can get really boring around the middle." |
"So, this is supposed to be their honeymoon. We threw all of Amrita's clothes down on the floor..." |
"...next to her sensible wedding shoes..." |
"...whoa! I don't know what we
were thinking when we put this in. It's just a short scene, but it
ended up on the cutting-room floor SO fast, except for a few bootleg
prints like this one.
"The scene immediately following -- where Amitabh puts on a pair of spiked sandals, stomps on Amrita's back, and throws chickens at her -- was cut as well, and I don't think any copies have survived." |
"Here's some more footage we cut out. The whole 'Goga is a vampire' plot distracted the test audience from the focal point of the movie. It was only later that we realized that the movie had no focal point, so the vampire plot would have worked nicely. I regret removing it." |

"Oh yeah! I forgot all about the dhole thing!" |
